چکیده
PURPOSE To examine the factors affecting visual outcome in vitrectomized cases associated with complicated branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). MATERIALS AND METHODS Of 114 eyes of 113 patients with BRVO, ages, general complications, distribution of occluding vessels, location of retinal breaks, classification of vitreoretinal pathology and number of cases, period from onset of BRVO to vitreous hemorrhage and from vitreous hemorrhage to vitrectomy, number of operations, relationship between posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) and number of operations, post and preoperative pholocoagulation status, pre and postoperative visual acuity, and cases with poor visual outcome were analyzed. RESULTS The visual prognosis was much better in the cases with vitreous hemorrhages only than those with proliferative membrane and retinal detachment (p = 0.0029). Repeated operations were needed in the cases of incomplete PVD (p = 0.0023). CONCLUSIONS Early vitrectomy, especially in the cases of incomplete PVD, seems to be essential for management and treatment for better visual acuity.

Pars plana vitrectomy and internal limiting membrane peeling for macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion
PURPOSE To evaluate the effects of vitrectomy and internal limiting membrane peeling for treatment of macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO). METHODS Nine cases of visual loss due to macular edema caused by central retinal vein occlusion or branch retinal vein occlusion underwent pars plana vitrectomy with removal of the preretinal hyaloid, peeling of the internal limiting me...
متن کاملCorrigendum to “Strategy for the Management of Macular Edema in Retinal Vein Occlusion: The European VitreoRetinal Society Macular Edema Study”
OBJECTIVE To compare the efficacy of different therapies in the treatment of macular edema associated with retinal vein occlusion (RVO). DESIGN This is a nonrandomized, multicenter collaborative study. PARTICIPANTS 86 retina specialists from 29 countries provided clinical information, including choice of treatment and outcome, on 2,603 patients with macular edema including 738 cases of RVO....
متن کاملVisual acuity and foveal thickness after vitrectomy for macular edema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion: a case series
BACKGROUND The mechanism by which vitrectomy improves macular edema in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion remains unclear, although intraocular levels of vascular endothelial growth factor have been suggested to influence the visual prognosis and macular edema. METHODS A series of 54 consecutive patients (54 eyes) with branch retinal vein occlusion was studied prospectively. All pati...
متن کاملVisual prognosis and vitreous molecules after vitrectomy for macular edema with branch retinal vein occlusion
This study investigated whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), and pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) influence the visual prognosis of patients with macular edema and branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). In 47 consecutive patients (47 eyes) undergoing vitrectomy, retinal thickness was examined by optical coherence tomograp...
متن کاملEdaravone (MCI-186) is effective as a free radical scavenger following arteriovenous sheathotomy for treatment of macular oedema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion
AIMS To determine whether edaravone (MCI-186), a free radical scavenger, can reduce macular oedema and improve the visual acuity after arteriovenous sheathotomy in eyes with a branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). METHODS Forty-seven eyes of 47 consecutive patients with a BRVO who were treated with arteriovenous sheathotomy were studied. The patients were assigned prospectively to either Grou...
